Asbestos

Does anyone worry about asbestos.

Were looking to buy an old bungalow and I've read that houses pre 1980s most probably have asbestos in artex and plasterboard and facias and soffits.
We would want to renovate but now another worry is asbestos everywhere and having to pay alot of money to have it specially removed Sad

We have done this recently, we had testing done in every room which cost a total of c. £300 for about 10 rooms. We then had 5 ceilings removed as a result which cost £1800. HTH

Poppyfields21

That's perfect thank you did they test the plaster/plasterboard too for that price or just the ceilings?

Did you have everything removed from the ceiling and then have to reboard them etc?

Just ceilings. Yes they entirely remove them and then you have to put new in. Look on ARCA for someone registered as I think there are a few cowboys out there doing it unsafely

Thank you Poppyfields I will check that out. Very much appreciated

Also done this, they test everything you want usually for about £300.

We had some floor tiles removed which are lower risk than ceilings. The main thing is to get what they call a renovation and refurb survey and be prepared to spend a few thousand on it, but that’s probably it.

Not a massive worry if you’re prepared!

Thank you TheDragon.

About 300 sounds average then.
I'm prepared to pay for things but I think alot will need doing and I'm trying to get some costings together to make sure we have enough.
