Lived in my house nearly 20 yrs.
10 days ago saw 2 small bugs in the bathroom. Next day & every day since have seen 10-20 of them.
Sent 2 to council for ID. Taken aweek but they've saud they're furniture beetles. Have also today sent 2 off to rentokil who do ID for free so hope to double confirm species next week.
The reason I'm a tiny bit iffy is that I've read FB's are 3-5mm but the ones I've found are more like 2-3mm.
Also I'm puzzled at their sudden appearance. No new pieces of furniture in the house. I'd have thought they'd slowly increase in numbers as they emerge?
No idea where they've come from as not found any exit holes, but 99.9% have been in the bathroom.
Any experience can shed light on these critters?
We had building (extension) work about 8 years ago involving the roof space, so its crossed my mind the wood used might not have been suitably treated, yet the council building control were doing checks, would this fall under their responsibility to have picked this up if so?
Insurance has confirmed they don't cover it.
I'm horrified & worried! Appreciate any knowledge etc on things mentioned above & treatment experiences with young children potentially exposed to chemicals.
