What are Aberfoyle and surrounding villages like to live in?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently living in Glasgow but looking to move somewhere rural since the birth of my 5 month old. I love Aberfoyle for day trips for dog walking and cycling, but I'm not sure what it would be like to live in. We don't need a night life or fancy restaurants, but would like to live somewhere with other outdoorsy people ideally, nice kids for our daughter to play with, a village pub, that kind of thing. I worry with Aberfoyle that it might be a bit lifeless out of season, but it's such a stunning location. Does anyone have any advice or alternative suggestions?
Any help greatly appreciated as we're looking for that 'forever home'!

I know people who live in Dollar and love it. Nice village feeling, not too far from other places. Good schools.

Balfron, drymen, Torrance, strathblane, kirky, Milton of campsie, milngavie

Any of these areas are lovely. Far enough out but not too far from shops

Thanks both!
@bacchahantes, I hadn't considered going over that side, but of course it will be quick to get into Glasgow too. I'll check Dollar out.
@hittheroadjack1, Drymen would be ideal for dog walking, cycling, being near loch Lomond for water sports, etc. I'll just have to see if there's anything that might fit my budget!

My dad lives in Callander it is lovely

Aberfoyle is indeed lovely. But yes to quiet in the winter months and cut off when the weather is really bad.

I know a lot of people who live in Killearn and it's a lovely village with a lot going on in teh community.

Thanks @user87382294757 and @OtraCosaMariposa. I guess commuting from Calander would be either train from Stirling or longer drive to Croy? Good point about getting cut off in bad weather. I'm keeping an eye on Killearn. There don't seem to be many houses coming on the market in the places I'm looking. I'm not sure if that's because houses don't come available in the area often or if the housing market is just slow everywhere right now pre-Brexit.

@MandMs84 did you end up moving to Aberfoyle or anywhere nearby? We are considering moving to Callander (no kids yet but on the near horizon) and have similar concerns about whether there are any other young(ish!) people like us living there. We love visiting but it seems on the older side...!

I was wondering the same about Aberfoyle, we have a 9 months old,is anyone based around there?
