Wallpaper is not that common in this part of the world, and I wonder if any Mumsnetters can help.

Our bathroom was wallpapered, which was then partially (?) scraped off, and then painted over a few times. I'd like to get back to the bare plaster, but I don't know how to do that. (I suspect the best remedy might be a wrecking ball.)

The original paper is glued very hard indeed ... soaking, steam, scraping... nothing seems to shift the stuff.

Any thoughts?

electric sander?

Ours was similar. Seemed like they used pva glue instead of wallpaper paste. It gummed up sandpaper! I spent hours scraping it off. I another room I got a plasterer in and he skimmed over the top.
