Hi folks. Looking for advice please. We live in an old house...we've done all we're willing to do. It's now time to move on. We're thinking of new builds in newton mearns. Which builders best Taylor wimpey, cala, mctaggart or david wilson?
Confused I've never bought a new build. A bit apprehensive.

Mctaggart have a good reputation. Persimmon do not! Think the rest are OK. Or at least not caught my eye as being bad.

Persimmon have rep of rushing builds then not fixing problems later when customer compain. It was in the press recently.

Oh BTW, remember in Newton mearns you will smell spillage when farms spread. I'm local and it's something that annoys me when going through.

My friend bought a David Wilson home about seven years ago and has been very happy with it. They were good at coming back to sort out snags even problems that have occurred several years down the line.

Cala are good - and expensive, of course.

There's a lot of housing stock on the market in Mearns at the moment, and I'm not sure how much value for money the new builds provide in comparison to the older properties.

I also wonder how the infrastructure will cope eg schools (although there is a new primary). And the new estates are quite far out, with little/no amenities.

If it was me, I'd be buying a 3-5ish year old house in one of the newer estates closer in.
