Fitted wardrobes

I was wondering where these days does similar quality/price furniture that MFI did. The fitted bedroomswe had done in 2001 are still in fantastic condition. My parents used another very expensive company that were very poor in comparison.

I don't know the longevity as only had them a few years, but I'm very happy with my Ikea wardrobes which were planned in store and then installed by their fitters

JoJoSM2 · 20/09/2019 19:47

I've got Ikea wardrobes that the carpenter built around to give them the fitted look and they've been fantastic (4 years old).

Comefromaway · 20/09/2019 22:17

You see I really don’t like Ikea. Nothing in there ever appeals to me.

Excuse the crap photo but these are mine. They are IKEA Pax - lots of door styles and handles to choose from. They were a fraction of the price of fully fitted wardrobes, really sturdy and lots of options (we have drawers and a hanging rail inside each, with a high shelf and storage boxes at the top).

Nothing in Ikea ever appeals to you? What not the chocolate even? Can't help then!

whataconundrum · 21/09/2019 07:50

@jojosm2 ohhh could you share a photo? We have some pax but were looking at how to build around them!

MsLumley · 21/09/2019 10:01

We had IKEA pax in our old house - I was initially a bit sceptical but they were brilliant. If you have a look on Pinterest for IKEA pax hacks you can get some ideas of how to jazz then up and make them look a bit more bespoke. I added on some glass effect handles and even that made a huge difference.

Another vote for Ikea pax !

HandsOffMyRights · 21/09/2019 10:45

Watching with interest as I don't know where to begin.
Can somebody explain what the Pax system is? What do I need?

MsLumley · 21/09/2019 10:52

Set aside a couple of hours to go to your local IKEA. Pax is a modular system where you can configure shelves, drawers, hanging spaces then choose doors exactly as you want it. I'm not technically savvy at all but their interactive system genuinely is very easy to use and the staff were really helpful. They have different depths, widths and heights to fit your space. You just need to go in with your measurements and a rough idea of what you need. Remember to measure the height of your room as well as they do extra height versions.

JoJoSM2 · 21/09/2019 11:32

@whataconundrum No own photo to hand but do google Ikea wardrobe hacks. I’ve attached a few photos of the Pax system made fitted.

@HandsOffMyRights it’s a fab system. You can get all the bits and bobs yourself and change them in 5 mins and they cost peanuts. Eg if you decide to lose a hanging rail and have 3 glass fronted drawers instead. You can also replace doors if you change the style of the room.

I really like that everything is soft closing and you get lights that come on automatically when you open the wardrobes. Tons of options for hanging, drawers, shallow drawers for accessories etc. My wardrobes have been evolving with me too in terms of the inside fit out.

We've just had 2 sets of Hammonds installed and I am really pleased with the quality. Yes they are a little more than ikea etc but they have a 10 year warranty and are fitted perfectly from floor to ceiling no gaps. This house had ikea PAX when we moved in only a few years old but had completely come away from the wall and was dangerous. With good quality fitted when they need repacking in 20 years plus it will probably only need to be the doors themselves. We thought they are worth the investment Smile

AwkwardPaws27 · 21/09/2019 12:40

Here's an idea of what the inside of ours looks like. We have automatic lights that come on when you open the doors.

We also fitted Ikea PAX wardrobes (the tallest ones they sell) and DH filled around them so they look like fitted wardrobes. The look fab even if I do say so myself!

Jocasta2018 · 21/09/2019 17:13

There were Magnet fitted wardrobes in our when when we moved in 17yrs ago. They're still going strong! And they've had a lot of use.....

PenguindreamsofDraco · 22/09/2019 19:03

Can you put wallpaper on the Pax doors, does anyone know?

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2019 19:14

Thanks for the tips. I have a sloped ceiling in my bedroom and once my door's open, not a vast amount of clear wall space (height wise I'm fine).

Will venture to IKEA with measurements to see if it's feasible.
