Is this just a fancy name for where you put coats and shoes?
What else is in your boot room?

Mine has a tall coat rack, shoe cupboard, ironing basket, big storage box with kids craft equipment in and a chesterfield chair.
It's all just storage but I made sure it was all attractive so it's also got fake plants in and my wedding board up on the wall 😆

princesconsuelabananahammock · 03/09/2019 19:11

This is not the best angle but shows it to a certain degree to give an idea. It was classed as a study when we bought it but i prefer this to keep all the mess from anywhere else in the house

Coats, shoes and boots in big cupboards.Heated drying cupboard for damp clothes. Utilty sink for washing dirty stuff (plant pots to dog bowls). Cupboard with vases/flower pots/candle holders etc. Built in benches with storage underneath. Dogs leads & toy bucket. Coat/hat pegs. Ceiling suspended drying rack. Big buckety thing with dc outdoor toys in it. Plants.Family pictures, random framed things from holidays/events.
Most useful/used room in our old house

MrsMozartMkII · 03/09/2019 19:30

All the Stuff!

In no particular order:

Coats
Hats
Scarves
Gloves
Brollies
Boots
Dog stuff
Other pet stuff
Drying rack (IKEA does a useful one that can be propped up and become a shelf - we dried riding hats on it)
Candles, torches, etc. (drawers! )

Basically anything messy, dirty, bits 'n' bibs, not used very often and used frequently.

tropicalkitchenisland · 03/09/2019 19:34

Fridge/freezer (the one integrated in the kitchen is teeny).
Many coat hooks
Shoe rack
Plastic shopping bags bloody everywhere
Buggy and pushchair
Wellies, brollies
Bag of hats, scarves etc
Recycling boxes
No cupboards/storage though it leads into the utility room. Really need a bench to sit on and put shoes on!

CIareIsland · 05/09/2019 09:36

All of the above - with the addition of a loo and a bespoke dog bathing zone. Mine is also glam with OTT ornate giant gold framed mirror. All of my stuff is behind floor to ceiling doors. Best room in the house - buffer zone for mud, wet, clutter so that it doesn’t infiltrate the rest of the house. This is where we as a family enter the house.

Friends, guests etc come into the front hall - where we also have a cloakroom for their coats / shoes bags.

Key rack, saddle, bridle, body protector and shelves with torch, battery, charger, flask and bat detector and lots of pics on the walls. It is too narrow for a seat otherwise it would have one.

Love having a properly organised area for coats and boots and best of all a key rack.

Cupboard to store ironing board

Several wall-hanging airers (as per photo)

Blanket box for old towels

Loads of coatpegs (about 30) with shoerack underneath as well as ‘out of season’ shoe-storage box under a worktop. One holds carrier bags inside carrier bags inside carrier bags, rucksacks, sports bags.

3M Hook on back of the door which holds a carrier bag containing Coathangers

2 walls-worth of worktop for the iron, ironing pile & presents to be wrapped.

8 cupboards including a whirlygig corner one which holds lightbulbs, laundry products etc.

Tall double-cupboard holding clean towels & bedding.

Toilet and door into garage. Back door into garden which also has a sunken ceramic sink with outside tap for easier cleaning of a dog....or child if s/he is filthy Grin

Alarm panel.

Mine is the utility room too I guess. The back door opens on to it, there is a door to the kitchen and a door to the shower room/downstairs loo, the washer with the dryer stacked on top of it, a radiator, big mirror, kitchen floor unit full of wellies, riding boots, walking boots and dog towels, loads of coat hooks with a shelf above with baskets for sun cream/sun hats then gloves/scarves/woolly hats in winter and water proofs and riding hats/gloves, a bench underneath with baskets for shoes. Oh and a door mounted shoe rack like this for DH's giant shoes that don't fit in the basket. We cram a lot in a small room with 3 doors leading off it!

chopc · 06/09/2019 13:10

This thread makes boot rooms sound like a normal thing. Would love to see pics of all your boot rooms. I assume this is separate to the utility room?

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 06/09/2019 14:14

@chopc mines a utility/boot room and as you can see from these pictures is not huge, it's not much bigger than the downstairs shower room. It was well worth squeezing it in when we had the extension built though.

Mine is utility/laundry/boot/loo - 6m x 3m - it works hard for the house - does all the dirty work and was the key zone, planned to perfect when we renovated the house.

chopc · 06/09/2019 16:04

@redlips thank you. Looks fab! Food for thought- we too then have a "boot" room but it is more of a cupboard next to the utility room. Maybe in phase 2 we can join them into one

chopc · 06/09/2019 16:05

@clareIsland- what a fab space that sounds like. Would love to see a pic

trickyex · 06/09/2019 16:37

Good thread. Love the pics so far....
My house has no utility room or boot room, only a very cramped coat cupboard off the hall.
Hence its constantly messy with no home for sports and ski kit (active DSs)/out of season coats/wellies/shopping bags/DIY stuff/vacuum/
gardening bits etc.
Would it be mad to convert one of the 3 reception rooms to a full on boot room? We have a big hall but having this stuff in it looks a right mess.

Spudlet · 06/09/2019 16:44

Mine is more the back porch than a proper room, but it has coat hooks at two levels (adult and child) with all the ‘proper’ coats, waterproof trousers etc, dog leads, a high shelf for bike helmets, the biking high-vis, and the wellies, walking boots and crocs. We tend to rotate stuff to an extent depending on the time of year - so right now my walking boots are packed away as I wear trainers in summer, but soon they’ll be coming out again. We have folding wall racks for the wellies but they have become extra hooks for wet stuff instead and the wellies just sit against the wall. And dog towels of course. I want to add some kind of wall storage for woolly hats and gloves this year as well.

It’s a really useful little space - one day though we’ll extend and then we’ll have a proper boot room...

Rupster · 06/09/2019 16:46

A boot room is a place to take off and store your muddy wellies and wet coat without having to walk through the house.

GinisLife · 06/09/2019 19:31

I'm about to get rid of my utility and amalgamate it into the kitchen. I have been persuaded to order the shoe storage

BogglesGoggles · 06/09/2019 19:35

Good for buggies.

BogglesGoggles · 06/09/2019 19:35

Oh and road bikes.

TowerRingInferno · 07/09/2019 09:07

Mine is separate to the utility room.

Storage for wellies, boots, shoes to throw on to go in the garden.
Storage of dog stuff.
Trugs to put recycling into
Storage of rackets, tennis balls, dog balls
Shelves with jam jars and killer jars
