Any Architect around?

Hello- we are looking to extend a small portion of our house. I know exactly what I need, but would ideally like to run it through with an architect. Having never used one before, I don't know how to find a good one. Is there a register? I tried looking on the Houzz app but I am not sure what to look for ? Please advise. Thank you

Thank you. I know about RIBA but was wondering if there is a thing like my builder.com for architects? I had a look on RIBA, but there are so many of them, don't know who to pick. What criteria to use? Sorry, I should have been more specific.

An architect shouldn`t charge you for a first meeting which will help you make up your mind as to which way you want to go. You may only need building regs. if it is a small extension depending on your planning department rules.

Have any of your neighbours extended? Maybe you could knock on their door and ask them who they used.
As pp have said a lot depends on your local planning rules
