Blocked pipe

DM's walk in shower drain is sometimes blocking and overflowing - strangely enough, not all the time. Definitely no hair buildup - she's elderly and gets her hair done at a salon weekly. There's no smell or foul buildup of soap.

We've tried the usual drain cleaner stuff, foam, bicarb etc and nothing helps. I've checked the outside outlet and it looks clear - no leaves etc.

The drain makes a physical noise now and again, like a gentle knocking. Any ideas?

My DM is reluctant to pay call out fees until we very much have exhausted all possibility of us sorting us themselves. Help!

I have not tried it but I have been told that a tablespoon of bicarb and a pint or so of cola .
Two people make this job much easier

Get rid of as much of the water as you can ,
One person put the bicarb down the plug hole the other person puts their hand over the overflow . bicarb person pours the cola down the plug hole then put the plug in fast and holds it down .
the fizz of the bicarb and cola creates a pressure and should shift the blockage .

good luck

So tempting! No plug however - it's a shower so has a covered drain? Any ideas how to create a block at the shower end?!

Have you tried pouring kettles of boiling water down it, also hot water mixed with soda crystals can help.

Thanks @Mosaic123 - tried that and most other drain chemical stuff.

Have you tried rodding it with a flexible metal coil?
I think you can get them several feet long.
