WHY is the floor of my upstairs hallway SOOO HOT?!

Help a girl out here, please!

In the last week or so (with the returning heatwave) I've noticed a very warm patch under my upstairs hallway carpet, it almost runs along the hallway and into the bathroom, as if it is a pipe. Problem is, when I google it this comes up with alot of results relating to actual underfloor heating- this is not.

Has anyone experienced anything similar, what is it and is it a cause for concern?

Do you have a hot water tank in your bathroom? I can tell where the water pipes run along from the boiler due to them warming the floor.

We have a water tank downstairs and my partner says its likely to be the water in the pipes, I just don't know why its only just noticing, we have been here for almost 4 years

Or do you have downlights in the ceiling below? If so could it be heat from them?

My cat tells me exactly where the warm pipes run - by her preferred sleeping locations!

My first thought was water pipes. We have hot spots too.

If it's pipes it could be that (perhaps - don't quote me - I know nothing about plumbing!) some lagging has come loose, hence why you're only noticing it now?

Is the same spot above a ceiling downstairs? If so, is the ceiling warm in the same spot?
