solicitors and panels of mortgage providers

My solicitor doesn't think he's on the panel of NatWest (my mortgage provider) anymore as he 'thinks they only deal with big firms now'...

What does this mean to the layperson? I've told NatWest mortgage advisor this and they said any solicitor on the law society website is suitable. Surely my solicitor would know if he was on their panel or not?

I want a solicitor who can do my sale and purchase, not one for each and this is stressing me already!

If Natwest are saying you can use anyone then use who you want. Maybe they used to have a panel but no longer do.
