Moving to Somerset

I'm moving to Somerset with work. Don't really know much about the place other than Glastonbury. I'll be living in the triangle between Yeovil, Crewkerne and Glastonbury in a village. As rural as possible is my dream.
Can anyone advise places to absolutely avoid?
I'm hoping for a more peaceful, quiet and rural way of life and of course the house prices are fabulous, I can pay off my mortgage and get a bigger house.

Avoid Yeovil, and Glastonbury (unless you already know you want to live in Glastonbury). Check the flood risk on the levels of any house you look at.

What are you into? Plenty of farmland in the area, but do you want walks (so footpaths(, horse riding (bridleways help!), access to anything? Schools etc?

Im single so schools are not a concern, I like walking and woods and forests.
No way I'm living in Glastonbury, I like a day out there but it's too busy to live in ditto Yeovil.
I'm going to look at some houses in West Coker and Martock next weekend.
I like the quiet life.

For walking look at the hillier areas for variety, and look for lots of footpaths and bridleways. Buy ad OS map or check put the online map of the area.
Large areas of farmland you cannot walk on!

Actually the council seem to have a complex but comprehensive thing here: roam.somerset.gov.uk/roam/map#

Castle Cary is very nice, god community spirit and reasonable house prices. Frome is the uber cool place for Londoners. Both worth a look.
Both have trains to L;ondon and Bath/Bristol and access to the south coast and Somerset coast + Devon quite easy.

Thank you both very much, I'll take a look.

I'm from that triangle! My mum is sitting next to me and we both reckon there are no bad villages in the triangle! We wouldn't go as rural as you want to probably, but the nice rural ones are probably West Chinnock, Chiselborough or Norton sub Hamdon, maybe Hardington. I suspect Martock will be too built up for you but it is nice. West Coker is gorgeous, my Aunty lives there.

Good luck, I don't live there any more but I'm sure you'll bump into my mum at some point!

I have a close relative living in a small community close to Castle Cary. It's a nice area and good for walks etc.
Depends how rural you want to be, but they don't have reliable broadband - villagers clubbing together to get it updated. There is also no mains gas so heating is via oil. The local post office closed since they moved there so have to use car for shops.
For banks they need to go into Yeovil (there is one bus a week).
