Just want to give up and sell my house

Been renovating for nearly 2 years now, still not even half done. Taking forever because DH is desperate to use his friend (to save money) so we have to wait for availability all the time.

I'm starting to get really fed up and resentful and just want a clean and orderly house now that I can be proud of. Last work was done 2 months ago and before that about 4 months.

Just wanted to rant really. I'm seriously tempted to say we should just cut our losses and move out and buy something new.

I don't know how big your house it but it took seven years for ours to feel like it was in a 'done' state. But of course it's still not done and there are plenty of odd jobs we need to be cracking on with. I feel your pain. We had to do ours bit by bit as we didn't have enough money to do it all in one go - which is obviously much less painful and cheaper in the long run. No having to clean the entire house of dust every time each flurry of work is complete. When I say done I mean to get it into a state where it looked more like a home and less like a shithole. We also found that the more like a shithole it still looks, the more other people treat it like a shithole. It seems there's a critical mass at which point people start to treat your house with some respect. I think this bothered me more than the dust. What do you still need to do?

Yes how big is the renovation? I will never live through a renovation again unless I can live off site and have all the money in the bank to do it, I think it can put an awful strain on life and relationships. Could you do one room that could become your sanctuary so it does not feel so overwhelming?

I know how you feel, our first two homes took 5 years each to renovate. The first was small and was completely DIY except for plaster, which was done on a room by room basis.
The second much larger so the basics were done by a builder, but all the finishing and plumbing DIY.
The last was gutted and ‘completely’ finished by a builder. Ha, ha, there’s still bits of woodwork and paining to do, refurb the hastily put in bathroom and redo the temporary kitchen fittings. 10 years later!
