Those currently on the market- what % commission to EA?

Although its not been that many years since we last moved house I've completely forgotten what sort of percentage we paid our estate agent last time, so I've no idea what a decent rate is! For those of you currently on the market what sort of percentage are you paying your EA? We're in the South East if that makes a difference? TIA!

There could well be small variations from one town to another, and the value of the property could well have an affect, but around 1% +VAT is the going rate near to me.

East Midlands and the going rate seems to be 1% plus VAT. And that includes everything - accompanied viewings, photos, after sales service etc.

I discovered many years ago (when I thought to ask) that you don't have to work on a % - some EAs will accept a fixed fee (mine did).

I was on 1% few years ago, the same offered now so decided to go with Purple Bricks this time

Were in the SE and paid 1.25%

0.85% plus VAT. But special rate as we’ve sold with them 3 times preciously.
Their usual rate is 1%.

South east and 0.9%

East Coast - 0.8% + VAT.

To an extent.
1% of £100,000 isn't going to go very far.
Whereas 0.75% of £5,000,000 is a lot of money.

I'm in SE and was last quoted between 1 and 1.75 %. I preferred the 1.75% EA and asked to negotiate the fee. I was told that they weren't, and never would be, a '1%' type EA'!!
needless to say I went with the 1% agent and would never pay more

North Yorkshire, paid 0.9%, before that Northamptonshire paid 1%. In both cases, worth every penny as well as the EAs worked really hard to keep the sale moving along once we sold.

Recently left London and paid 1.3% having negotiated it down. Admittedly they did a very good job in a difficult market.

We had a few agents round when we last sold. They all seemed to be 1% or lower except one agent who charged 1.5%. We got a really good feel for them but went with another agent for various reasons. They turned out to be absolutely useless and during the time we were with them the 1.5% agent stayed in contact to see how things were going, offering advice on viewing we had and offers we received and also telling us about properties coming on the market. Since our agent were so awful we ditched them and went with the 1.5% agent but negotiated them down to 1.25%. They were absolutely brilliant and well worth the extra .25%. When we move again we will go with them from the outset.

Don't just look at fees but also look at the agents presence. The agent we used sold and let most properties in and around our area so had a big database of potential buyers.

We’re in the SE too and paid 1.25%. The agent was excellent and helped to keep everything moving. It was a fairly difficult sale as there were problems with our buyers property. I couldn’t fault them and would use them again.
