Our current setup in our house is 3 fairly large doubles, but because of the odd layout, the 3rd bedroom is too far from the others for us to use while we have young children.
We've got planning permission to extend, which will give us another average sized double (3.2x3.3m), but I don't want to take out a loan for the work while I'm on mat leave, so the extension is a few years away.
When the baby is ready to move to her own room, it leaves us with the choice of sharing with her sister (2yo) or splitting the room into 2. The room is 4.7x3.7m, and already has windows and radiators in both sides. We'd need to get an extra plug socket installed, and would lose a bit of space to give them both their own doorways.
Has anyone done this? Both from a property and a parenting point of view! Or should I just leave it and let them share?
We've no plans to move from this house until we're old and grey, so resale isn't a major concern, although it is of interest as I don't want to devalue house. We may have one more child in next few years. After extension is done we'll have either 4 doubles or 3 doubles and 2 single rooms.
