Am I doing a pointless task? Sanding doors

I thought it would be a wise move to strip all the paint off my interior french doors before repainting them..three days in, I'm beginning to think is it worth it?!

The doors are 8 years old, but when I took of the door handles I realised they had obviously never been sanded since being installed! The paint layers were so thick!

Is my preparation work worth it to just be repainting them again?

For repainting, you only need to give them a nice over with sanding paper.

8 year old doors should be fine with a light sand and repaint.
We had ours dipped & stripped, but they are 112 years old so many, many layers of paint!
