New, wide window needing blinds - Help!

Our new kitchen has a very wide window.
It's divided into 3 sections with narrower opening windows at either end and a wider static bit in the middle.
We can't make up our minds about blinds for it. While I like the look of Roman blinds, I don't think they'd work here as they'd hang too far down and make the windows look even wider.
If we have traditional roller blinds, we'd have to have 3 of them and I just think that would look weird.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I wouldn't have any blinds since it's a kitchen window looking on to your own garden. Is there a particular reason why you need them?

Aquamarine1029 · 09/08/2019 21:17

You could have a valance box installed above the window which could contain/hide the blinds when not in use.

Can you put up a fabric covered wooden pelmet which just comes down about 8” or so to take the bareness away.

Etino · 09/08/2019 21:30

No blinds. I really don’t understand the British obsession with window dressings. @StrongTea that would block out so much light 🤦🏻‍♀️

WhyBirdStop · 09/08/2019 22:05

It doesn't seem to be overlooked, I'd leave it without, maybe put up some bunting if it's too plain?

You can get made to measure blinds from blinds2go or blinds247.

Soontobe60 · 09/08/2019 22:15

If you want a a blind to cover your window, I'd suggest a roman blind that goes up to the ceiling and comes to just below the window top opening when pulled up. That will make your window look taller.

SallyLovesCheese · 09/08/2019 22:27

A vertical blind? Then it can be completely closed, drawn over the window but twisted open to meet in some light or pulled aside and completely open. We had these on every window in our flat, very handy.

I don't like bare windows because at night you get a big black rectangle. Very depressing to be looking at that all winter, imo.

Perfect fit blinds are great. Cost a bit more but would go nicely in your window. Easy to fit aswell

We also have a wide kitchen window.
It isn't overlooked, but gets full sun practically all day during the summer months. Kitchen gets very hot so wanted black out blind to use during the day that was nice to look at.
We used Art Fever who were very reasonable. You can either use one of their pictures or one of you're own.
We now have a beautiful beach scene to look at when blind is down.

I'd have a Roman blind - have it done made to measure by a local person.

Fix it outside of the window and above the window frame to make the window look larger.

wheresmymojo · 10/08/2019 10:00

You can usually find recommendations for local people who make blinds by asking on local Facebook pages.

GreenShadow · 10/08/2019 15:39

Thank you for all your really helpful comments.

I particularly like the idea of fixing Roman blinds above the window. I think that might work. There's a local business with a good reputation so we'll get her to come and measure up and see what she thinks to the idea.

As regards not having any form of blinds etc, just to the left of the fence in the picture is a public footpath, so I do think we need something or I'd feel very overlooked as it starts getting dark.

What is the width inside the recess?

GreenShadow · 10/08/2019 16:40

WhereDoes the overall width is 275cm and the middle section is 140cm. So pretty wide.

Wooden Venetian blinds?

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 10/08/2019 16:45

We got some from Blinds2Go for our kitchen window which is too wide for most ready made blinds.

Totalwasteofpaper · 12/08/2019 09:34
