Second buyers pulled out

Ugh, we’ve been on the market for what feels like forever. First buyers offered asking price, waited ages for everyone to get the chain together then changed their mind completely on area and pulled out.

We found new buyers quickly and saved the chain, passing up a portion of the small drop to our sellers. Nothing wrong with our house, believe me they’ve had just about every tradesperson you can imagine out to try and find something. Strung us along for ages. It’s in good nick for a period property. Whole chain pushing to complete this month and they’ve turned round today and dropped their offer by £25k solely due to a spurious valuation by an out of area surveyor (mortgage valuation apparently was fine).

We’re going to tell them to take a hike, even if we could afford the drop with our onward purchase I’d sell it to someone else for less before I let them back in my house now, but this is just so frustrating.

Anyone else finding buyers really jittery? Is it Brexit? Just feeling fed up. We’ll go into rented to get some breathing room as we have to move soon but any tips on making sure the next buyers aren’t complete twats??

No experience yet but drone hat I've read in here there seems to be some right CF chancers on here.

I'd also tell them to poke it out of principle.

lucy2311 · 10/08/2019 01:10

We're having a horrendous time too with sellers dropping out - three of them! Tell them to piss off. They're just chancing their arm. I bet they hold on.

RedWineForMePlease · 10/08/2019 07:06

Feeling your pain, had two buyers pull out myself too. First pulled out due to worry about length of chain, and second because it was too small (despite seeing it 3 times!!).

I think brexit is making people jittery, which doesn't help. But sounds in your case like you just have some total tw*tty buyers. Fingers crossed they see sense - is there a chain below them or are they FTB? Can't imagine the chain below would be too happy if it suddenly collapse because of them!

Lou573 · 10/08/2019 09:38

They’re not FTB but renting out their current place, so no pressure there. Childless couple so no worry about schools etc. It’s just such a twatty thing to do, string along 4 other families with deadlines and let everyone spend loads of money on searches, surveys etc before pulling out. What’s wrong with a bit of common decency?

I’ve suspected that the house we wanted to purchase has dropped in value a bit, but wouldn’t have dropped my offer because it’s a shitty thing to do - it’s just what can happen - if prices dropped next year once I owned it I couldn’t have done anything about it!

Were on our 3rd lot of buyers (first went on in March). First lot pulled out 3 months in - change of heart essentially. 2nd lot pulled out for spurious bastardish reasons (total fuckers). Fingers crossed it's 3rd time lucky. But yes - I think people are jittery, pulling out for vague reasons. My estate agent described as buyers being less committed at the moment.

The whole process sucks.

Lou573 · 10/08/2019 19:25

Fingers crossed for you @JoanLewis.
I think we might give it a few more weeks to try again with buyers - third time lucky, otherwise we will have to become reluctant landlords and rent it out. We have to be in place by the end of the year for schools. Been going since January, I thought a year would be plenty of time!

In two moves we went through a total of 5 buyers and 4 vendors plus the two buyers that did buy our houses had either a cf dropping their offer at the last minute or a buyer who turned out not to have a mortgage offer...

elasticfantastic · 10/08/2019 22:11

I've had 2 sales drop through because my buyers couldn't get the mortgages (even though they had mortgage in principals)

It's really frustrating because now people looking the house assume there's something wrong with it because it's been on the market 4 months... I think right move should be able to have a notes section... NOTHING WRONG WITH HOUSE.. BUYERS SCREWED UP!!

As a person who looks at rightmove as a hobby, I now know not to judge when a house has been on the market a while!

WBWIFE · 10/08/2019 22:58

Ours wanted 15k off and we said no. You either buy the house for price originally offered or its coming back on the market tomorrow.

They came back right away and said they wanted the house

Lou573 · 10/08/2019 23:56

@WBWIFE - that’s what we’ve done. Just waiting to see whether they were calling our bluff I suppose, but will go back on the market on Monday otherwise.

To be honest though, I’ve lost faith in them and have no confidence that if they were to give in at this stage they wouldn’t try and pull a similar stunt the day of exchange.

There reLly needs to be a change of law - a deposit or recourse of fees etc

Completely agree with this! I wish it would show any SSTC periods as part of this. ALthough the danger then is people think someone pulled out because there was an issue...

Keeping everything crossed for everyone!

Nutellaontoast19 · 11/08/2019 16:04

@elasticfantastic same here! Buyer fell through due to mortgage rejection even though they had a DIP. Back on rightmove!

lucy2311 · 11/08/2019 16:26

So frustrating. Lost 3 buyers... back in the viewings process again. One tomorrow who sound good, 5 last week - none of which can progress.

Will our house ever sell?

Can the government change the current set up?
