Cheapest place for decent kitchen

Could anyone recommend the best place to get a decent kitchen at a reasonable cost, after IKEA! I have heard IKEA are usually the cheapest but the issue of having no service gap puts me off as I don't fancy loads of pipes etc being visible! I don't want to spend a fortune as not in my 'forever' house. Just want something decent enough as cheap as possible! Thanks

we are redesigning our kitchen some time this year and b7q have a sale on at the moment and some very nice kitchens, and wickes are supposed to be reasonable for prices i dont know about ikea

isseywithcats · 09/08/2019 16:43

thats b&q

I think Howdens or DIY are likely to be cheapest, Howdens has the complication that they send the quote to your tradesman so you may not see it

If you like IKEA, there are options, such as having your pipes rerouted under the cabinet to tidy it up.
Alternatively, you could have IKEA units and sit them forward with an extra deep worktop - there's a blog, Simply the Nest, that did this.

DIY great service!! Nothing missing or damaged

Cannot say the same for b and q which were awful

geordiepidge · 09/08/2019 22:18

DIY kitchens were a third cheaper than Ikea for us. Decent service, very good quality units.

JoJoSM2 · 09/08/2019 22:56

I'd recommend DIY Kitchens too.

I can highly recommend the IKEA kitchens - great quality at a reasonable price. Didn't have any issues with fitting either.

I had heard this but I’ve just had a kitchen from them and they sent the quote and plans direct to me. My builder had to order it through his account though.

Mummyshark2018 · 10/08/2019 18:13

We've had a wickes kitchen fitted recently. Really happy with it and got a lot of out money. Customer service was great as they forgot to send a panel and sorted this ASAP.

Builder will still be making abit on it I bet. They can pass on some or non of the discount.

DIY kitchens worked out very reasonable for us. The quality was far superior to B&Q etc, and our fitter thought they were better put together than Howdens.

They didn’t because I paid Howden’s direct.

AndreaDonno · 10/08/2019 23:44

"They didn’t because I paid Howden’s direct."

Your builder has an account with Howdens. You paid money directly to Howdens. They credited your builders account with said amount. That amount will be more than Howdens debited your builders account for the kitchen.

Your builder will have made money on the kitchen.

There's a very good reason why builders and kitchen fitters recommend Howdens. Quite simply, they get a good kickback on everyone sold.

To think anything different is naive.

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/08/2019 00:12

For fucks sake. The builder was a close friend who I trust implicitly. He only opened an account with Howden’s so I could get this kitchen. Not everyone is out to get you!

sleepwhenidie · 11/08/2019 00:16

My quote from Howdens, which I got with my builder, was 2x IKEA and builder said Howdens was ridiculous (which was why I then went to IKEA). Just build custom cut, extra deep worktops into Ikea quote ASAP said. It will still be a great price and good quality.

sleepwhenidie · 11/08/2019 00:17

To clarify...I got the Howdens quote before Ikea quote!

sleepwhenidie · 11/08/2019 00:18

And ASAP was meant to say ‘as PP said’. I need to go to bed.

Mgr1603 · 11/08/2019 00:23

I just had a howdens kitchen installed and fitter passed on 100% of the quote price, he is a friend and I know for sure he just made the money from fitting it
