Greenwich vs Chiswick - Buying first home

Hi Everyone,

I have been flat hunting for a month now and got my eye on a 1 bedroom flat in Chiswick and a 1 bedroom flat in Greenwich. Both of my offers got accepted by real estate agents today and I am looking for some help in deciding which area to pick! The flats are pretty similar and it really is just a matter of which area is nicer to live in.

I would appreciate any advice, comments or feedback from people who have lived in/visited these areas, and maybe a general advice or considerations for someone who is buying their first home...

Thanks in advance for your help!

Greenwich has changed a lot. The Peninsula, where most of the new flats are, is full of young people and there's a lot going in. It's on the Jubilee Line (runs 24 hours now on Sat/Sunday). Greenwich centre/East Greenwich have train lines at Maze Hill and Greenwich plus the DLR so transport links in the Borough to London are excellent. Chiswick is a bit more cut off but is also a nice place to live. I'd say Greenwich has the edge for a young person. Pubs, parks, farmers markets and cafes galore.

Greenwich over Chiswick any day of the week.

You really should let the other seller know you aren’t proceeding though. They may be declining other offers and you are basically timewasting them - which while legally allowed, isn’t really cricket...

I'd say Chiswick. Unless there have been massive changes Greenwich and Blackheath stand out as being the only nice parts and are surrounded by less pleasant areas. Chiswick is near Kew, Richmond, Twickenham etc. all lovely.

I'd go for Greenwich, tourists can be a bit much in the summer but I lived there for 6 years and it's my most favourite place
