Sustainable wood

I am having a new kitchen and want shelving as part of the design. Hardwood will be best for strength but I am concerned about the ethical nature of this. Anyone with any advice/thoughts/knowledge?

Bamboo is the most sustainable as far as I know as it's so fast growing. If you don't have ufh you can get reclaimed parquet but research the fitting costs as it can be quite high.
