House valuation

What actually matters when having a house valued? We have renovated our house to a fairly high standard but it is 'lived in' so it is not 100% perfect.
My husband seems to think we need to go round touching up slightly chipped paintwork etc before it's valued but surely small paint chips won't affect the value of the house?

The probably won’t. However, valuers are only human and it’s only natural to be slightly subconsciously affected by things such as presentation or smell etc.

Don't get me wrong, our house is very clean and well decorated etc. There are just a few chips, mostly on door frames where our little boy has bashed into them with a toy of some sort!

I really wouldn’t worry. Most people viewing won’t even noticed and besides any potential buyer will be wanting to decorate to their own taste.
Any major damage, of course, should be fixed.
