Kitchen diner layout

I have an 8m by 3.5m kitchen diner. It's long but annoyingly not that wide.

I'm desperate to fit in a dining table that can fit 6 people, benches are fine. And also some kind of softer seating. Me and DH like to sit in there and leave the kids in the living room.

At the moment we just have a dining room table at the end and although the room feels spacious it sort of feels like there is a big gap but I can't figure out how to fit everything in!!

Hopefully I've attached a floor plan pic.

What are the dimensions of the area where the dining table is to go and what shape and size table do you have at the moment?

I had similar issues - my kitchen diner is 9x3.5m.

Do you need your table to seat six every day? Ie, could an extendable table, pushed against a wall and only pulled out when necessary be an option?

That’s what I’ve gone with. Went for a table that was 80cm in width (rather than usual 90cm), 120cm king, extending to 160cm.

Nabru sofas give you the option to build your own sofa to meet your space issues. In the end though I went for the friheten sofa from ikea which has a chaise at one end (although I was advised to get a sofa with a footstool instead as more flexible.

My dining table looks more like a coffee table in comparison to the sofa, but we generally eat at our peninsula and we rarely use the dining table, but use the sofa loads. Prioritise what you think you’ll use most.

That’s my ‘diner’ end. I’d sat the space is about 3.5x4m as kitchen took up more than I wanted. I saw you had patio doors where I gave the tv so you’d need to look for another option if you want a tv in there too.

With those dimensions unfortunately you’ll have to compromise on something. For me it was having a smaller dining table, for you it might be having a couple of armchairs instead of sofa, depending on what what your priority is. I will say though that I managed to fit in more than I thought with the 3.5 width.

I'm sorry I can't see your pic.

Dining tables are deceptive. You need quite a lot of space for people to get in and out of chairs so your best bet might be to avoid seating anyone at the ends.

How about sofa at the end, a long thin dining table across in the middle, with 3 seats on each long side and none at the ends and a short side up against the wall, and then your kitchen area? If your table is say 2m - 2.2m that would give space to seat 3 easily and still leave 1.3-1.5m for a walkway. Maybe have the 2 seats nearest the wall as stools so they are easier to get into. Can the sofa just face into the room or does it need to face a TV?
