Changing Architect

Just that, really - I've looked at other threads and am now a bit concerned because there seems to be a suggestion that the architect owns the plans? Does anyone know whether it is possible to employ another architect once you have worked with one to draw up and submit plans for planning approval? Would there be extra costs involved (would the second architect have to draw up the plans a second time or would the first architect give me a file with the plans that I could use? )

Am so fed up with the whole extension process already - and we are not even at the planning approval stage. Which doesn't really bode well for the build itself.
