Leaving a property before sale completes on the next

Hi

Looking for some advice on logistics from people who have to move out of a property and into an interim place before completing on a sale.

I'm likely going to need to move out of my rental before my purchase completes. I will be moving in with family hopefully for just a few weeks, but no idea exactly how long.

What did you do about post? I'm thinking I'll need to redirect to the family members address and then update the redirection once I (hopefully) move into my permanent home. Has anyone used a PO box instead?

Did you change address on bank accounts, cards, pension etc?

Is there anything I havent thought about?

I would redirect but wouldn’t change your address until you’re in your new home (assuming the interim accommodation is only for a few weeks or maybe under 6 months).

One other thing to consider would be possibly renting storage depending on how much space family have/are able to offer.

I did this on three occasions for varying lengths of time. The worst bit was trying to find something then realising it was in storage!

We redirected our post but didn't change address on anything until we moved into our new house.

You will, of course, have EXCHANGED contracts before moving.

@PigletJohn hopefully yes, but potentially not. Need to leave the rental irrespective of what happens with the purchase.

then you ought to notify a change of address. no point in being recorded at an address that you will never return to.

Your car registration, licence and insurance, for example, must have your address.

Sometimes redirection fails. Some official documents are marked "do not redirect." Credit cards might be sent by courier or other agent. So may parcels.

if you have not exchanged contracts then you might never move to your proposed new home. So keep looking until the day you exchange contracts.
