Kitchen for left hander

So I am a leftie and DH rightie, we are planning on getting a new kitchen as we are going through planning at the moment for an extension to the house.
DH does most of the cooking so I am willing to compromise. We saw a lovely kitchen at the weekend but all the double doors had a lip on the left hand door, which meant you always had to open the right hand door first.
I pointed this out to the show room person, but they said that after a while I would get used to it - but I’m not sure I would? Am I being weird or picky?

That set up would annoy me as a right handed person.
I have a double door larder and frequently only want to open the left hand side.

You are not being picky at all. I have lots of double doors in my kitchen, and none of them need to have one door opened before the other, they are all independent of each other. I'm a righty, but it would annoy the hell out of me if I had to open a right hand cupboard to get something from the left hand side!
Might be worth having a further browse, perhaps somewhere else with a more thoughtful sales person!

Don't you just open the side of the cupboard that holds the thing you want, or do them both together? I don't think I ever open the right and then the left just because I'm right handed. I do open either the left or right independently if I am wanting a plate or bowl.

I don't think it's about lefthandedness but I would be put off that kitchen. It's easy enough to buy a kitchen where you can operate the doors independently.

Thank you! I am not going mad then.. the double door cupboards were set up so you could open the right hand door on its own, but if you wanted the left hand cupboard, you still had to open the right hand door first.
I think the little lip was there to make it seem more hand made and bespoke that you’d get from ikea Grin

Weve got a base corner unit that has a lip on so need to open the right hand door first... i presume this is so there isnt a big gap inbetween the doors....im left handed and it doesnt bother me....plenty of other things do though but thats the joys of being 'special' !!

Sounds like style over function to me.

Sounds a bit annoying regardless of being a leftie or a rightie.

I’m a leftie and don’t feel I need anything different in the kitchen tbh.
