Integrated hob extractor

I’m currently designing my new kitchen and not really able to come up with a design to accommodate a traditional cooker hood extractor with outside ducting (it’s a terraced house). Does anyone have any experience with recirculating extractors or even the newer hob- integrated extractors, how effective are they at removing cooking smells? Many thanks for any suggestions.

Hi @Anxiousmum, we're just bumping this thread for you in the hope that some Mumsnetters will be along shortly with some advice.

I don't have experience of recirculating extractor but I met with a kitchen guy yesterday to get advice on replacing our (very) old extractor which is extraction and he said unless you're doing lots of frying then a re-circulating one should be fine, although you'll need to replace the filters regularly depending on use. Which magazine say extraction is more effective.

Kitchen man also mentioned routing ducting through the space between the ceiling and the floor upstairs to get it to an outside wall.

I have no experience but a similar dilemma. Our new kitchen is going into a space with very high ceilings (5.5m) and the hob will be situated in the island. An overhead extractor would end up either being ineffective (if located in the ceiling) or too imposing, so have settled for the following, which both my builder and kitchen designer has recommended as the best option.

We are having it ducted and venting outside under the floor, as opposed to recirculating.

We have one, a recirculating one because we forgot to get the ducting installed when having our kitchen done. It works fine, poss not as well as ducted one but well enough for us, although it is a large room which prob helps. It’s neat too, much better in an island than a ceiling extractor (in my opinion). Ours is CDA model CH19.
