What to do with this space? With diagram!

We live in an narrow town house, kitchen and entrance downstairs, living room upstairs. I don't know what to do with the space between the entrance hall and the kitchen. It's currently a dumping ground, not a great welcome home! Blush (The dining table is in the kitchen because I like the garden view, so I don't want to move it).

Any suggestions?

Chair and small desk with a family calendar/wall planner above? You could come home and immediately deal with any post, put school events on the calendar etc. You could do it as a sideboard and armchair to look more cosy/welcoming.

A swing
Small sofa
Giant bean bag

Kids aren’t kids for long, don’t sweat it.

Small Sofa and shelves for books/board games.

Bookshelves
Comfortable chair and small table
Small desk and chair

We have a little space like that in our kitchen and I have two leather chairs and a little table. It's handy for quiet cups of coffee and also for putting on shoes on the way out.

If you need a study area, Id put that in he space. If you've got children, then it could be their area near the kitchen. Probably some very good storage would be needed so it doesn't turn into a bomb site.

How big is it @Survivaltowel?
A snug? With arm chairs of a sofa?
What do you normally "dump" in that area? It might help give ideas.

Tell us about your family. Do you have children and how old? Do any adults work from home?

If it's big enough for the table, it's certainly big enough for a desk against the wall, a comfy chair and some decent storage.
Maybe an ikea kallax with a box for each member of the family- if things get dumped there, they could be dumped in an organised manner.
