Uttoxeter

What can anyone tell me about Uttoxeter (other than it has a race course)?

We're looking to relocate from the West Midlands, and it's somewhere that is within the distance, but I know very little about it...

Was hoping someone could give me some idea of what it's like? Transport, accessibility, if it's really busy or not, if it's 'nice' (which I know is subjective)...those sorts of things.

We've looked at mostly village locations so far, so I know this will be considerably bigger than those.

Any information is greatly received - thank you in advance! Smile

There a post about Uttoxeter I can't link but it's called "talk to me about Uttoxeter" started on 15th May this year.

I grew up in stafford and drive through Uttoxeter every week on my way from derby to stafford to visit my family so I know it fairly well.

It's expanded a fair bit in the past 20 years with the A50. It used to be quite a cut off farming town.

It's got a school system of first, middles and high schools

It's got a big Tesco -and a recent addition of a Waitrose- my favourite. The town centre has quite a bit of charm.

Eek - I had a quick scan of the threads for Uttoxeter, but not closely enough! I'm really sorry, I'll go and look for it now.

Thank you for the reply though. Smile

No problem. I'm happy to help 😀

Thanks @nellyitsme - had a read through that thread and it's definitely put it on the list to have a look at. Smile

I live not far from Uttoxeter and really like it,the town is small and quaint, lovely Countryside around it.Easy access to the A50 and East Midlands Airport.

I know nothing about schools there.

It was featured on UK Cops Bodycam Squad, the crime rate is low,the odd drunk playing up,and a bit of thieving.

Also the property prices are low.

I’d definitely agree, Uttoxeter is a very nice place to live. Schools have a good reputation and good parks, leisure centre etc. High street is a little bit tired but some good new shops and potential for redevelopment. Some of the surrounding villages are stunning too though, have a look at Abbott’s Bromley, Marchington and Marchington Woodlands, Hoar Cross, Newborough, Denstone and Wootton. If you like Uttoxeter you’d also like Stone and Tutbury too I think.

Rockhopper81 · 12/07/2019 23:27

We do like Tutbury - went there recently, along with Hatton and Willington.

Will definitely have a look at the other places mentioned - thank you all! It's great to get thoughts and opinions from people who either live in, or know, these different areas. Smile

Rockhopper81 · 14/07/2019 16:40

Exciting that you think you might have found a property @wellbuggerme - hopefully we'll be able to seriously look in the not too distant future!

Will definitely be looking more at Staffordshire in general. Smile

@heath48 I agree but then I'm biased as I'm from stafford.
@Rockhopper81 hope you find somewhere. Look around the villages and small towns, as people have said.
@wellbuggerme hi I wondered how it was going for you and whether your DH got a job up Uttoxeter way. Where have you looked
We could have a Uttoxeter and surrounds appreciation society 😀
