Why doesn’t anyone want our house?!

Been on the market since January.
Dropped the price twice, recently switched agents.
Lots of viewings, generally positive feedback. People like the house, but no one wants to buy it!!

It looks really narrow in the picture. Definately get a front on picture.
And yes kerb appeal is important for alot of people.

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:28

Yes I think so! We had few sofas when we moved in, they must have come that way!

Solar panels are leased, can be easily transferred to new owner.
We don’t do anything except benefit from free daytime electricity

It’s lovely inside. I agree the first photo isn’t appealing, but you’re getting viewings, so maybe not relevant.

I’d personally never buy a house without a downstairs loo and an en-suite master bedroom. But again, you’re getting viewings...

Is there something in the area that’s putting people off as they approach the house? Ie. Do they drive past a sewage works or something?

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:30

mrscog I agree, but that’s what we were valued at. House prices are crazy

Sofas can go through windows ! Or out the french doors and over the fence ?

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:32

Honestly it’s so lovely here, you drive past a lovely village green, church, pub. Good school over the road, near a train station

Yes curb appeal IS that important.
Why is there a sheet of plywood at the front and grow that grass! Move the bins even just for the photos.
Continue with the pavers to the front door.

PopWentTheWeasel · 11/07/2019 14:33

The bathroom is maybe letting it down. For that price, and how the ground floor is dressed, I'd expect a seperate bath and shower, or en suite, but it's a shower over the bath and it's an old, screwed on, bath panel.

Maybe the lack of a garage, presuming you converted an integral garage into a room, is also working against you?

Nothingmuch · 11/07/2019 14:33

Solar panels are a good thing in energy saving.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 11/07/2019 14:34

I really wouldn't be surprised if the lack of proper front door is a big issue. I know you can't change it, but it might be something that you'll have to come to terms with. You'll find a buyer, but your "pool" of buyers is possibly smaller than most others in that price range.

You definitely need a much better shot of the front.

PopWentTheWeasel · 11/07/2019 14:34

@knitclubchatter the bare garden / plywood is next door, it's not the OP's garden to fix up!

Chickenitalia · 11/07/2019 14:34

The decor looks very good inside, but the things you can’t change will be limiting the number of people interested. The door on the side would be the big issue for me. Can a pushchair even fit down there? No garage, again can be a problem especially if the garden area isn’t so big for a decent shed etc. In a 3 bed detached I would expect a downstairs loo, it’s a family home after all. The driveway looks a bit tired and a few plants would change the feel of that I think.

While it might be on at a sensible price for the size and area, those aspects will bring it down even if it’s in perfect condition. If that’s the case, dropping the price so that someone is prepared to overlook the negatives is often the only way to go. It will sell, it’s a nice home, but the things you can’t change are what people will remember, bad decor will be dealt with by new owners anyway.

RowingMermaid · 11/07/2019 14:35

My honest first thought is how the hell do I get all my furniture into the house when the front door looks to be to the right hand side and down a narrow passageway.

My friends lived in a house with a "front" door on the side but their side passage was next to the neighbour's side passage meaning wide furniture could be straddled over the small fence dividing the paths.

Also what is the large box on the wall above the table? And I don't like steps from the kitchen into the dining part.

I can see why it may be a difficult house to sell. It is lovely inside but has issues for some buyers re room sizes and the lack of a front door.

mounteverest564 · 11/07/2019 14:36

@Nothingmuch yes if owned outright

ChicCroissant · 11/07/2019 14:37

I also think it's the lack of a front door, that side passage looks really narrow.

Good luck with the sale, OP.

PopWentTheWeasel · 11/07/2019 14:38

OP, if you had the garage converted, it's likely your furniture entered via the then-garage, not down the alley way to the side of the house. If you can only get a wheelie bin down the side of your house, I doubt you'll easily get furniture down there to move in / out.

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:39

The plywood is next door.
Can fit a pushchair down to the door no problem, it’s not a narrow passage.

OP posts:
noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:39

You couldn’t access the house from the garage, all our furniture came through the door

OP posts:
whatswrongwithmyarm · 11/07/2019 14:40

I'd remove the photo of the wall with the picture frames, it looks out of balance for that wall and messy.
Remove the mats on the bathroom floor.
New bedding in the master and I'd make the bed more central.
New photos of the front, it looks messy.

Beautiful house.

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:40

We benefit from free electricity at the time of production, anything else is sent to the grid

OP posts:
Mummyshark2018 · 11/07/2019 14:42

The lack of front door would put me off in this case. A side door could be ok but not when accessed through a dark alley. Do other houses in the estate have doors like this?

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/07/2019 14:42

First thing to do is get some gorgeous pots of geraniums/bushes/hanging baskets for the front. The front needs love. First impressions etc.

Knitclubchatter · 11/07/2019 14:42

Well then you need a front fence define your property. That first shot is a horrible.

noitsachicken · 11/07/2019 14:43

Yes several on our road are the same design, we have two lights on the side of the house
