Why doesn’t anyone want our house?!

Been on the market since January.
Dropped the price twice, recently switched agents.
Lots of viewings, generally positive feedback. People like the house, but no one wants to buy it!!

Tbh, the solar panels or front door issue probably wouldn't put me off. I think for me the decor, although neutral and inoffensive, maybe feels a bit on the bland side. I'm really sorry, don't want to upset you!

I think if I was searching through a few pages of houses in my price range, it wouldn't stand out to me. Have you mentally moved out of the house? I ask as it could be a bit more homely or cosy. Would consider adding some cheap finishing touches, cosy lamps and some hanging baskets for the outside, then have the pictures reshot.

I would include photos of all the rooms, PooWilly because while people may be curious to know about a third bedroom, etc., they may not have the time or energy to drive to the house to take a look with small children in tow, plus they may be people who sort houses they are interested in by means of photos online and might suspect a mould problem or some other defect in a room not shown, and dismiss the house.

I have already contributed my tuppence worth on staging and improving the visual impact Smile. I agree with you that staging could help this house.

The house across the street from my mum's is online with the fatal combination of blurb to the effect that 'a young family could make this solid 60s home their own' plus no photos of the kitchen or bathroom plus a price that is a bit optimistic given the orangey brown wood paneling I know to exist in both kitchen and bathroom, which also feature 80s decorative touches. Not surprisingly, busy people are not inclined to schlep small children out to see the extent of the work they might be in for.

Any luck on selling Op? X

Whaleghost · 09/08/2019 14:06

The house isn't for me and I'm from close to there (Bristol).

Read the whole thread and it just seems overpriced, all buyers will know what you bought it for and count up the cost of the conversation and increases in the area and know it's on for too much. If you want to move then I'd drop it.

It can be a functional house, but afraid no one is going to fall in love with it and that's what you need if you want to sell it for over the odds.

Whaleghost · 09/08/2019 14:07

Oh and the solar panels are the final nail in the coffin. No one wants to buy a house and be told they don't own part of it. How many years left on them?

gwilt · 09/08/2019 14:12

As well as the other valid points raised, Brexit may be another factor. House-selling is slowing down generally in various places as people become more cautious before commiting to a large purchase like this.

sueyandcol1 · 19/08/2019 17:08

OP has there been any more interest since you reduced to £300k? I hope so.

whotheeff · 19/08/2019 18:07

Kerb appeal is almost more important than inside. You've got to get them in and people want a nice looking house. The photo makes the houses look really close together.

HisBetterHalf · 19/08/2019 18:13

Wheres the front door?

HisBetterHalf · 19/08/2019 18:16

Just saw the response regarding front door at the side, is there enough room to manoeuvre a pram, bike, wheelchair (whatever the prospective new buyers may have) thotugh that narrow gap? I dont like that its too close to next door given that its supposed to be a detached and that would be a dealbreaker before I even walked in to view

FeeFee832 · 01/09/2019 22:39

Did you manage to sell OP?

BitOftheSea · 02/09/2019 17:24

@FeeFee832 If you follow the OP’s link you can see it’s still for sale and the price has been reduced. The leases solar panels would really limit the market even if it wasn’t for Brexit.

FeeFee832 · 02/09/2019 23:36

@BitOftheSea oh no, that's a shame. I wonder how she is getting on?!

Have you had much feedback from the EAS?
