Has anyone used these when buying / selling a house?

My buyers used them. They were honest to god the most awful people ever. We nearly lost our purchase because they were so incompetent!
Stay away and use a proper local office based solicitors!

Oh god 🙈 I'm worried now, I've read some awful reviews about them.
They were recommended to us by our (independent) broker.

We used them when buying last year (first time).
Our Solicitor was brilliant and we completed in 7 weeks.

We are FTB, no chain... should be fairly straightforward.. surely? 🙏

should be fairly straightforward

Depends on the property, rather than the position of the buyer.

I think with a firm like Beaumont who are rather large, it comes down to how effective the individual is, and the nature of any problems that come up. A decent person and a purchase with no major issues and you should be fine. Alternatively get someone who is a bit average combined with a couple of issues and you may have a rough time.

Don't do it. They were recommended to us too from a developer. Shocking. We never went with them as they got the basic facts wrong (like stamp duty!!) on the quote. Go with a local company, reviews are there for a reason.

Dinosauraddict · 09/07/2019 20:05

We used them when we were a FTB and trying to buy an empty flat, they were absolutely awful and it fell through. Shortly after we found somewhere else to buy but found a new solicitor!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 09/07/2019 20:10

They were my house solicitors a few years ago and put it this way, I formally complained to the SRA about them. They fucked up everything they could have and weren’t even nice to deal with.

puppymouse · 09/07/2019 20:23

Used them on our remortgage last year and wouldn't touch them again with a fucking barge pole. Sorry OP.

Lazy, slow and tick boxy. We nearly missed our mortgage offer window because they took so long and fannied about with stuff they didn't need to.

TheyCallMeMellowYellow · 09/07/2019 21:14

Oh gawd. This is not what I wanted to hear!

Listen to the reviews OP, I'd eat my hat if your broker wasn't recommending them due to a referral agreement (I.e. he'll get paid a fee by them if you use them). Use a local firm who know what they're doing.
