It's 3:45am.
We bought a house. The smoke alarm is hard wired and has just gone off for no reason (thankfully of course). It is the loudest thing I have ever heard. My heart hasn't stopped pounding! Kids awake - and understandably frightened.

Investigated. No fire - phew.

They switched off on their own too after about 30 seconds.

The neighbours must all have stood to attention too.

Sooooo. Why has it alarmed and then silenced? What if it hadn't silenced alone? How on earth would we have switched it off? And who do we get to service it? I've never heard of such a system before (have now!!!).

Please help us.

Thank you!

Might need a new (backup) battery.

We had one that was faulty. The company sent a new one. Details are inside when you twist off the cover.

You should still be able to turn off a hardwired one- the mains supply should be a back up to the battery failing, and as above i suspect that’s why it’s gone off, because your battery is dead

Thank you. I'll get onto it tomorrow
