If you love where you live... where do you live?

Reading through threads about different locations, there's always a mix of negative and positive comments. So if you love living in your village/town/area of a city, where is it?

Forest of dean, Gloucestershire.

I work in Monmouth which is a little town near the FOD, beautiful town.

The forest is amazing, lots of scenery and great walks, lots for kids to do that isn't too built up or distracting. All very mellow and pretty.

Middle of nowhere. In north east.
Love love love it.

I live in a village 15 minutes (5 miles) from a small city.
I have neighbours, but beautiful fields 2 minutes walk down to road.
The village has primary and secondary schools, an amazing village shop serving fresh bread and pastries daily. We have a swimming pool, a gym, doctors surgery, dentist, Italian, curry house, Chinese, and kebab shop, an average pub.

Down side. Bus service stops at 6.30pm so you are reliant on a car.

I love it

Also 1,20 minute drive to central London (weekends)

LadyGAgain · 05/07/2019 22:49

South Downs - west side.
Absolutely gorgeous scenery, 25 mins from the beach. 1 hour to london Waterloo. Easy road connections in every direction. Super cool city right on my doorstep. Great schools and infrastructure. Love it!

A Northern suburb of a city in West Yorkshire. Love it. Handy for fabulous shopping. Handy for York's Dales. Great parks. Great range of museums, restaurants, cinemas etc. Would hate to live in the sticks.

JoJoSM2 · 06/07/2019 08:06

What are the places called?

North Wiltshire near the Marlborough Downs. Our garden backs onto farmland but a train station 10 / 15 mins away gets into Paddington in under 55 mins.

Pipandmum · 06/07/2019 08:14

I don’t want to reveal the place name in case I’m recognised!
I live on edge of a town in an island. Not very built up, plenty of individual shops, two minutes from sea and countryside. The kind of place if you go into town or to the supermarket you’ll run into people you know most of the time.
However I ‘like’ it but really miss London so will soon move back. Fulham area, lovely shops, plenty of restaurants, good transport links, family friendly, green spaces, nice architecture, just half an hour from all the museums/West End/major shops. I love the hustle and bustle. Only negative is the expense!

Tiny village/hamlet on the Leicestershire/Rutland border between Oakham and Melton.
It’s fabulous. Not giving village name as that would be hugely outing!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/07/2019 08:23

Dorset. This was how I spent an hour after work yesterday

North Dorset here. Amazing- moving here totally changed my life.

TapasForTwo · 06/07/2019 08:31

The view from a few yards away from the front of our house in rural South Yorkshire. Half an hour from two major cities.

Surbiton (well, Berrylands).

Wide leafy streets. Gorgeous flowers and plants and trees everywhere. Lovely community feel. Lovely school on doorstep. I love my house. Have lots of friends. Very easy to pop into London on train. Easy commute for DH. Kingston a couple of minutes in the car with great shopping. Esher a few minutes in the car with a lovely cinema. Loads of places to hang out with kids, I walk the dog in a nature reserve. Just feel very happy and contented.

OP - be aware that mumsnet has been subject to frequent data hacks - and is a hotbed of journalistic source material - people are not going to put where they live.

JoJoSM2 · 06/07/2019 13:13

I'm just quite surprised that most responses were include country living!

Going against the grain a south Manchester suburb. Lots going on - bars, cafes boutiques. 10 mins to the city centre and very leafy. Love I can get an Uber or takeaway delivered at any time.

notangelinajolie · 06/07/2019 13:27

Country for me too. We have just bought a property miles away from anywhere and although it's pretty uninhabitable at the moment we've been spending more time there than we have at our home. I absolutely cannot wait to move there I bloody love it. No people, no traffic and definitely no noise whatsoever. Bliss Smile

Roll on September!

opinionatedfreak · 06/07/2019 13:30

Central London. 30min walk to work.

Bars, restaurants, markets on my door step.

Lovely quiet flat with amazing view of city skyline.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 06/07/2019 13:31

About 5 miles from a village and 10 from town. No buses. Surrounded by fields and trees. Absolutely love all the peace and nature.

nevernotstruggling · 06/07/2019 13:33

Edge of Plymouth/south hams. My kids are growing up on the beach and moors but lots of infrastructure. Wouldn't change it

aweedropofsancerre · 06/07/2019 13:34

London.... lovely village type part with lovely local parks, woods, restaurants, bars, great schools and easy access to the city centre. I love it and have done for many years

museumum · 06/07/2019 13:34

On the edge of a small city - 30mins by bus (frequent) or bike into the city centre and 30mins out by bike/running into the hills. Ideal.

SolitudeIsHighlyOverrated · 06/07/2019 13:53

North Coast, Northern Ireland. Who could complain about this view?

Saddleworth....in one of the villages. I absolutely love it. Country living but with lots going on. Everyone knows everyone but in a good way ... I've never had such a busy social life.
Amazing scenery, great schools and amenities and close to Manchester
