Why hasn't this South Sheffield property been snapped up?

Lovely home, great location, why hasn't someone snapped it up already?
Came up on my Facebook feed, I'm fairly local to it.
What do you think?

Ridiculous price, too cluttered, overbearing decor.

Gingernaut · 03/07/2019 09:39

The view hasn't changed and a large portion of the 'class' is going with the vendors.

It's overpriced.

NotGenerationAlpha · 03/07/2019 09:44

I agree why pick on the decor and clutter. They are all going. I love the view and also the house itself looks fairly large. I don't know sheffield, so probably it's very expensive for the location.

SaintAlice · 03/07/2019 09:50

The two Brexity bedrooms would be enough to put me off! I know they'd take all those cushions with them, but still, at that price (especially in Sheffield) you're selling a lifestyle and not just a property. A life cluttered with Union Flag cushions is not the lifestyle I aspire to have.

MrsBertBibby · 03/07/2019 09:52

It does seem astonishing that the agents weren't more proactive in removing the more eye-catching crap, like those cushions. They are meant to be professionals! All those silly details stop people seeing the rooms.

HeronLanyon · 03/07/2019 09:55

Seems extremely expensive for location.
Sloping garden.
Some might don’t it hard to see the house for all the stuff and fussy decor.
For me the main thing which would deffo put me off for that price, there, is how unbelievably close the next door house is and overlooking the whole garden.

SnuggyBuggy · 03/07/2019 10:00

It doesn't seem practical or in the right area for a family and yet it's probably too big for people without children.

@ Paddingtonthebear

The South West of Sheffield is very different to city as a whole. Sheffield Hallam is one of the highest earning, most educated constituencies in the country:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Hallam_(UK_Parliament_constituency)

The median income and average house price you have quoted are not indicative of S10, 11 where this house is located.

There are far cheaper and far more expensive houses in the area but this particular house is not value for money -- Unless you love golf.

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/07/2019 11:22

It looks like a lot of money and the street view is not great.

AnnieOH1 · 03/07/2019 11:55

For those querying Sheffield house prices this is in prime consultant area, close by both Thornberry and Claremont private hospitals and one of the two main NHS hospitals (Royal Hallamshire) which also houses part of and is neighbour to Sheffield University med school. It is also very close to most of Sheffield Uni's various properties. The area also attracts solicitors to some extent.

I know a few consultants who have lived in the area when their kids were young and then moved further out into the Peaks as their kids have got older. This is the type of property that may appeal to them for a few years before moving on.

BeGud · 03/07/2019 20:30

Way too expensive. See what else that you can get for £850k.

BlueSkiesLies · 03/07/2019 21:33

That’s not a very nice house for the price

BlueSkiesLies · 03/07/2019 21:35

Sloping garden with a city layout. That would a lot of up and down with young kids

I mean, it’s sheffield. It’s bloody hilly. I can’t remember any of my friends having a flat garden when I grew up there!

Also S10 / S11 is actually a very expensive area, loads go for over a mill.

However this just isn’t that nice an example.

iMatter · 03/07/2019 21:38

That's fucking hideous

Unburnished · 03/07/2019 21:53

The decor is eye watering and I couldnt cope with all the stairs. It’s a bit fur coat and no knickers really. Plus it has a ski slope for a garden.

If I had the money, I’d choose this instead:

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 03/07/2019 21:58

not everyone likes Lionel Ritchie or our beloved Queen Crown Wink

HeronLanyon · 03/07/2019 21:58

unburnished that’s lovely. Except I’d have sacked the estate agent for being under the influence of something “2 enraptured centuries of lives lived . . .” What on earth were they thinking !

AndromedaPerseus · 03/07/2019 23:38

It looks like an aspiring WAG’s house

watchmefly · 04/07/2019 01:12

It looks like it might be an infill build into part of what was previously the neighbours’ garden. The streetview link is even less flattering. The gates and the cctv sign are really off-putting, I’d wonder if what looks like a public right of way to the side of the house is the reason for that.

QueenofPain · 04/07/2019 01:17

So much ostentatious junk everywhere!

Nat6999 · 04/07/2019 02:07

It's in a lovely area but its ugly outside & inside, there are better houses for that kind of money. Anyone buying it would need to totally gut it & get rid of the frills & fancy bits.

RubberTreePlant · 04/07/2019 02:17

Someone is determined to advertise fugly Sheffield houses on MN.

It’s such an odd thread isn’t it?! Especially when there are genuinely so many lovely properties in the area with stunning views and large (albeit usually sloped) gardens.

SnuggyBuggy · 04/07/2019 11:33

The expression money can't buy taste has never been more apt. It maybe wouldn't be a bad holiday let property for a group of adults looking for a boozy break together

FatherBuzzCagney · 04/07/2019 20:45

Because even though it has the same wallpaper as 9 years ago when it last sold, and even though house values haven't gone up by anything like this much, the owners want almost £200K more for it than they paid for it?
