Our elderly gas hob is dying and I need to get a replacement. The old one has a width of 60cm. What I can't work out is whether I buy one that has a slightly smaller width - eg 58cm - whether it will still fit in the old aperture (rather than dropping through!), so that swapping over will be straightforward and there'll be no need for a new worktop to be purchased and a new aperture made.
I wouldn't be removing the old hop and fitting the new hob myself - I'd get a gas fitter to come round. I'm just trying to get clued up in order to buy the right thing....
