White or Magnolia ceiling!

Need to have the hall and stairs painted. Probably will stick with the current magnolia colour scheme as it works. Is a magnolia ceiling going to
Look odd? Am trying to keep costs down and if I do it myself it will be easier to have all one colour.

A magnolia ceiling would look pretty odd IMO. Do you still like the colour? It might be a good chance to go for something a bit more modern generally, but if you still love it then ignore me!

White

MediocreOmens · 24/06/2019 12:30

If you want one colour I would suggest you paint the walls and ceiling white rather than magnolia. Magnolia is seen as fairly dated these days. If you want a warm white I suggest something like Dulux Timeless.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/06/2019 12:31

@MediocreOmens thanks for that suggestion. That is a good idea. I don't one the magnolia but is suite the space.

I agree with timeless over magnolia but I would have a white ceiling as otherwise it will just look grubby

AwkwardPaws27 · 24/06/2019 15:37

A magnolia ceiling runs the risk of looking nicotine stained.

Have you considered other colours? Egyptian Cotton (Dulux) is very nice.

AwkwardPaws27 · 24/06/2019 15:37

I mean for the wall - ceiling would be better white!

Blue5238 · 24/06/2019 15:55

I wouldn't use magnolia for anything unless you live in 1982! I'd go White for both walls and ceiling, or a more modern off-white

MediocreOmens · 24/06/2019 16:06

I agree ceiling would look better brilliant white, cleaner and crisper

Zandana123 · 24/06/2019 22:23

Would you use dulux timeless on walls and ceiling?

jemihap · 25/06/2019 05:43

I'd definitely use the same shade of white for walls and ceilings, makes it so much quicker and easier and avoids all the faff of cutting in.

Oblomov19 · 25/06/2019 06:35

Ceiling should be white.

Lightsabre · 25/06/2019 13:29

We have white ceilings and above the picture rail then Timeless under - looks really nice, fresh and modern. Magnolia is very dated.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/06/2019 11:42

I've got a quote from a decorator that is much more affordable and I instantly got a good feel for him
And his company so I will go ahead with him. Such a relief that I'm not going to have to do it!

If you don't mind, what does it cost these days to paint a room? Assuming it's bare, fresh, dried plaster?

DOLLYDAYDREAMER · 02/07/2019 22:45

We normally do all over in one colour if pale ie no darker than magnolia - but if darker then white ceiling as you can see the difference

AltheaVestr1t · 02/07/2019 22:49

Have just gone Ivory Lace rather than Magnolia for my repaint. Less peachy, fresher and more modern. But white for the ceiling!
