Our neighbours were getting their drive done, only there was a mix up with the firm who did it. My OH returned home to find they had dug up half of ours by mistake! The firm said they would re- tarmac it. Initially they offered to redo it all but, as they had only done a small section by this stage and due to the disruption it was causing, my OH just told them to redo the bit they'd taken off. We were pretty reasonable with them. Mistakes happen.
2 weeks later, after numerous excuses they got round to doing it. Result is it's pretty poor work. It has tire marks in several places and is crumbling round a drain cover and at some of the edges. We're obviously going to complain and ask to be compensated but just wondering where we stand with this?
Had it been down to me, I would have got them to do the whole drive. The mismatched colours don't bother us, it's only tarmac, but I'm aware that when we come to sell our house we want the exterior to look as good as it can. I would like it completely redone at this point.
Problem is, we have no paper work, we never employed them and I'm fairly sure they will argue that they offered to do the whole drive initially. How do I approach this when I come to complain about their botched job?
