Hello ladies , i need your help regarding buying houses in york .
I really like a house in a new compound in derwenthorpe area in york .
Build by David Wilson, the proplem is that i heared thag this area is rough as it is considered to be in Tang hall .
Do you have any advice for me regarding this new compound and this area ??

Are they calling it a compound or are you?!

Is it in osbaldwick? I don't think there is an area in York called Derwenthorpe- maybe it is the name of the housing estate?

It's not the best area of York, but it's all relative really. York is a very nice, very small city and the 'rough' areas are really nothing to right home about. If you like the house and it suits your family, I'd say go for it. Its more studenty than anything else, although if it is Osbaldwick, it's fairly quiet.

Few years since I lived in York so it might have changed but Tang Hall was pretty notorious back then
Even if the area is ok though if you are ever going to want to resell you need to think about how it’s classified
For example when we bought our house the EA made a big fuss about how we were classified as x area ( we weren’t local so had no idea and didn’t actually havec any preference for x area). Once we moved in we were repeatedly told by delivery people etc to stop putting x on our address as we didn’t live there. When it came to schools we were not in x and when we looked into selling the house we were told that we couldn’t market it as being in x and therefore it was worth £20k less than if it HAD officially been in x
To be honest it’s never been a problem for us, we love the house and area and x is only a 10 minute walk away but it’s something to consider

The problem is that i really like the area of the development itself because it is a new built by David Welson but it so close to tang hall which has a bad reputation .
