Hire or borrow a vax or carpe washer to vacuum up the worst of it. You may find you need to take it up though. Any contents insurance for accidental damage?

I'd call your insurance company if I were you.

Thanks for the reply's, I have been out and bought a wet vac and have sucked up the excess water have covered with baking powder and have fans going to circulate air fingers crossed it works as excess on insurance is £450

If it's literally just the carpet then you've done the right thing. If it's gone through into the joists and floorboards and ceiling you would need to dry out between the layers and there may be water damaged the ceiling below.
