Anyone used tile paint before?

Just bought first house and although initially I wanted to do a beautiful bathroom renovation I think that’s going to have to wait, so wanting to do a cheap revamp for time being! I’d like to paint the tiles around the bath and the tiles in the shower cubicle white, but all the best reviewed tile paint seems to be toxic and I don’t fancy using it indoors.. has anyone got around this issue?

I used it- vile stinky stuff. It scratches and peels too- although I am a notoriously bad decorator Grin

We used ronseal grey tile paint on a sort of magnolia coloured tile in our old house. It looked good but painting them was a bloody nightmare Grin

Ahh i see!! Hoping if I scrub a lot and prime hoping it won’t peel?! @Nobhobs is there any advice to make it less of a nightmare? Been looking at protective masks!! Do I need to buy a fan? Already got extractor fan as obviously it’s the bathroom! We have a dog but hopefully can just keep her downstairs (no kids yet!)

I have and it worked amazingly well! Those small gloss rollers are ideal, work quickly and don't put too much on at once because you can always do several layers.

I used it some years ago for a quick revamp, like you. It really stinks. The main problem was peeling in areas that were subject to damp. This didn't happen overnight (looked great for about 4 months), but then it slowly began to bubble and come away and looked terrible. I would imagine in a shower it wouldn't last very long. I would say don't. Even old tiles look better than peeling and bubbling paint.

I painted the tiles in my kitchen about 6/7 years ago just using ordinary gloss paint & they look as good now as they did when first done. I'd looked on line for tile paint/tutorials etc & most sources said just use ordinary paint & I'd certainly recommend it based on my results.

What about tiling yourself on top of the old tiles?

I think its improved a lot over the last few years so look for recommendations from people who have done it more recently.
