Extension ideas where a chimney breast is in the way

I've attached a plan. The idea would be to knock through Kitchen and dining room. But where the circle is shown on the plan is a massive chimney breast. Happy enough to go outwards but will end up with a U shape....

How much space - if any - is there between right side of chimney breast and the kitchen door?
Is there a matching CB in the dining room?

I don't suppose you can use a real chimney for venting an extractor...

If you have budget to extend it's worth pricing up having the chimney removed.

How about closing off the doors in the bottom right hand corner of the kitchen and opening up new access to the utility from the hall. Run your kitchen cabinets right round to the chimney. That creates space at the top end of the current kitchen and you could just knock down the wall from chimney stack to top external wall. It would be a bit U-shaped but massively cheaper than extending or removing the chimney stack.

I originally wanted my chimney breast in the kitchen taken out, but it became a bit complicated, underpinning needed, the easiest option was restoring the fireplace.

Or it is an ideal place to put a range oven?

Can you knock through on the left of the chimney breast to create a large open doorway? Or would that just leave less walls for kitchen cabinets?

It's a pretty big stack and I think would be v expensive to remove.

Closing off the door and running the cabinets round is a good idea.

I wondered about building a single storey extension to join run across top of dining room and kitchen - with windows/doors out onto the garden.

Expose the chimney breast on both sides and install a double-sided woodburning stove, knocking down the walls each side?

NeverPutAWetFootInABirkenstock · 13/06/2019 15:44

I was just going to suggest the double sided wood burner option, they are lovely.

ComeBackBarack · 13/06/2019 16:36

Would that be an inset one?

Or would you leave pillars or an arch or something and put a woodburner in the midde?

How wide is it from the external wall to the chimney Brest in the kitchen?

tomboytown · 13/06/2019 17:08

I put wood burner in

But there’s lots of oven options
