Please help
Victorian terrace with old bay window and roof (think wood)
The heavy rain has seeped through which has led to part of the ceiling collapsing!
Not sure who to call... should I be calling the insurance company?!
This has not happened before so I’m gobsmacked 😕

You’ll need to contact a roofer to come and fix the roof and make it water tight. Then a plasterer can fix the ceiling.

Yes call the insurance company. They will tell you whether it is likely to be covered by your particular policy.

orangeshoebox · 12/06/2019 20:58

yes, call your home insurance.
they will either send someone out or give you the number of one of their trusted tradespeople to sort it quickly.

EmmaC78 · 12/06/2019 21:02

What is your excess on your policy? If it is high I would just get a roofer and sort it myself. Insurance might not pay for the roof repair anyway as it would just count as general maintenance.

Phone your insurance company first, they will advise you of the next step.

Ok thanks all! I’ll contact insurance tomorrow- Rain has been particularly bad today but will also contact a roofer (hopefully 2-3 quotes) and compare with excess

Doubt that will be covered by insurance.

Anyway. Roofer to make water right.
Rent a dehumidifier and get the room properly dry.
Then plasterer.
