Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

Did that link work? www.ribble-reclamation.co.uk/installing-reclaimed-stone-floor/

avocuddl · 13/06/2019 20:23

Those on that website are £168 per square yard 🤣 no idea who could afford that!! We're looking about £3000 for the flooring 😭😭😭 loads, but I hope it will be worth it!!

avocuddl · 13/06/2019 20:24

Those grey tiles are lovely! They'll look fab!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/06/2019 20:29

@avocuddl the other option is the one often seen in hotels, but depends on the style of your house.
Have the blinds ceiling mounted, then have coving set forward running full width of wall, preferably all round. Like a pelmet but not a pelmet!

Oh that's a good idea @WhereDoesThisToiletGo thank you. I'll discuss both with builder! I just don't want anything covering the doors when we want them open iykwim.

Getting bespoke painted doors might be a good option then you can get exactly what you want @northernruth

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/06/2019 20:38

Another one going hardcore hardfloor.
Wood effect porcelain planks. Mr WheresDoes not 100% on board with the idea but the alternative is that he has to source another flooring. Which he will hate.... So I get my way!

@soakedat3 nice tiles, those grey ones.
Hexagons mean a LOT of grout!

ShakespearesSisters · 13/06/2019 20:44

We have tiles :-) they have been going down today :-) :-)
We went from old kitchen floor that was previously tiled so we had to take up the old tiles and adhesive. Then the old dining room that was suspended wooden floor boards. They had to come up, joists packed and had new chip board over top then tiling boards. Then the new extension floor. There has been so much self leveling cement too, I dread to think, the floor levels were always unknown entities until the walls came down.
We have about half the tiles down. I ordered enough for the whole room (42m2) but the builder said save myself some cash and just tile up to the kitchen cabinet legs and when the plinths are on no one will know any different.

@ShakespearesSisters the tiles make it look like a room again rather than a building site.

ShakespearesSisters · 13/06/2019 21:11

Yes, @WhereDoesThisToiletGo and they are throwing so much extra light in the room already.
I wanted to start painting the plaster but between tiles I can't stand on, not set self leveling concrete and all the building stuff I gave up.
Fingers crossed I'll be able to get a bit done tomorrow night when the kids are in bed.

I'm loving reading everyone's posts about what's going on. Its given me a few ideas to put in my kitchen.

soakedat3 · 13/06/2019 22:00

@ShakespearesSisters, we will prob only being going up to cabinets and under appliances only.

@avocuddl, is that 3K including the tiling? Do you have a big area to tile? The link is to some very pampered stone!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/06/2019 22:05

I've been worrying that I'm over thinking and choosing stuff far too early, but @soakedat3 post about deciding on radiator placements one week into the build reassures me that planning ahead is good.

avocuddl · 13/06/2019 22:30

@ShakespearesSisters wow it looks amazing! Love the tiles! You're so close to the finish line!!

Yes Soaked that's including fitting. We also have around 50m2 to tile. Just the tiles alone from that website would be nearly £11k 🤣 hoping my knock off ones will look just as nice as those 😳 the sample is lovely!

chopc · 14/06/2019 04:03

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo where are you sourcing your wood effect porcelain tiles from? This is just what I am after too!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 14/06/2019 07:12

@chopc
ttps://www.mystonefloor.com/wood-effect-porcelain-tiles/
They will send samples.

chopc · 14/06/2019 07:33

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo thank you!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 14/06/2019 12:05

Interesting thing I learnt about Alusplash yesterday.
Each length has 2 different colours on it.
I assumed it was Blue or Green on the front and all of them had a wrong side, but they have 2 right sides, just different colours.
So it you have some left over, you could use the other side!
Unfortunately you can''t choose the reverse side, it's just their combination.

soakedat3 · 14/06/2019 12:36

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo, thats quite clever with the Alusplash. You could get quite creative! And yes, plan in detail as it will save time when your builder asks. I had only drafted out the radiator mapping so it could be discussed but as it was on graph paper (courtesy of DIYKitchen door samples!) it was quick to see if it would work and builder just started moving pipes around under the joists. I really have to get a move on with lighting plan! I bet I am asked next week...

Window man is coming today to measure up so lots more decisions made. New Dad is proving quite informative about the options out there. Now instead of a small window and door beside it at the utility I might get a full length window and full glazed door. The view in won't be good but I'll enjoy looking out while hanging my laundry and washing the dog :D

I think New Dad is prepping me for losing a velux there though as he says he's looked in that loft space torn off the sofit and it's a "bit busy" there with the new roof hip and other technical terms. He's thinking the angle might make a velux not feasible and had a mutter about the architect just putting it in his drawing.

Avo, ours will be about 3K for tiling and tiles too. Similar floor space and I want up to the ceiling for the small marble subway tiles on one wall. OMG I cannot wait to see the tiles go up!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 14/06/2019 13:09

@soakedat3 It's inevitable that things that work on paper don't work on site, shame if you lose a velux. Myabe he can keep it but make it smaller?
We're hoping that the central support pillar can be made smaller than the plans show but we won't know until they start pulling off the existing plasterboard

The view in won't be good but I'll enjoy looking out while hanging my laundry and washing the dog :D
My new utility window will have bathroom glass in it as the view in = dumping ground and view out = fence!

TheFatberg · 14/06/2019 13:13

I might have a DIY kitchen rant. Please all keep your fingers crossed that the issue gets sorted and I won't have to rant about them.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 14/06/2019 13:17

@TheFatberg Oh no... a few people on here have had their delivery dates pushed back. One poster even gave up completely with plan to go with them and went for Wickes, but you are past that stage.
You were expecting it within a week or 2? But they hadn't yet made it up?

TheFatberg · 14/06/2019 13:48

WhereDoesThisToiletGo apparently they were making it this week, but haven't. There seems to be confusion about an addition to our order (a cupboard for the utility room). My partner is in contact with them and I'm just about ready to cry.

avocuddl · 14/06/2019 13:49

@ShakespearesSisters I just noticed on another thread that you have a floor to ceiling window! It looks amazing! What a fantastic idea! I just assumed it was a door!

avocuddl · 14/06/2019 13:50

Oh fatberg keeping everything crossed for you!!

avocuddl · 14/06/2019 13:52

@soakedat3 is there an alternative to the velux or just no window?
