Haggling magnet kitchens

Out of interest, has anyone been successful with haggling at magnet kitchens? If so how successful we're you and how did you go about it?

We've had a number of quotes now and actually magnet came out surprisingly reasonable (13k vs 10k for diyk) in comparison and so far is our preferred kitchen.

I'm tempted to go in at the end of the month and say we will buy for 10k and see what they say. Or do you think that is cheeky? Or would you try for more? Also currently trying to get a quote through my builder from magnet trade. My husband thinks just pay what's quoted but I feel nothing to lose and quite a lot to gain.

I managed to haggle (although didn't go with them in the end). Say that you're really keen but it's just way out of budget, but that you really like the design and the thought that has gone into it (totally smooze him/her!) - if £10k is what you're prepared to pay then tell them £8k, and mention that they same design is only coming in at £8k with DIYK - they are likely to come back with £10k. There are various manager discounts they can 'find'. Also if you are having appliances, ask them to take them out and that you will source your own - they can work with you on which ones will fit etc - but they make a really decent mark up on appliances, so this can be where a lot of the cost sits. Good luck.

I went a magnet trade place, told them what I wanted, and asked what discount they did for cash. It worked.

Rhica · 11/06/2019 14:34

Ah thanks for the replies. That price is just for the cabinets as I had already decided to get appliances and worktops myself. I will start with 8k and see what they say 😁

@scaryteacher did you open an account yourself for trade or through your builder? I asked my builder for a quote but he is stalling for some reason so was tempted just to go in myself and see what they said. Do you know how the prices compare to magnet retail?

I went in with my builder, asked the question, got the discount (but I knew exactly what I wanted) and the deal was done.

Don't know how the prices compare, but what have you to lose by going in and asking?

@Rhica I know this is an old thread but just wondered if you managed to haggle with Magnet in the end? We have a great plan from them but the units are expensive.

Rhica · 06/09/2021 00:37

@Teenagers2grownups0 sorry for late reply. We got a cracking a deal but mainly thanks to covid (surprisingly) as they were getting rid of old stock

Did pretty well on haggling throughout the whole build though. My tip would be get quote. Leave it a month. Then go back. They know you are super serious then and desperate to lock the deal in. Good luck x

Thank you @Rhica it’s an old thread so while I was hoping to I didn’t really expect to get a reply!

By chance that is exactly what we’ll be doing! We got a design about a month ago, they know we are going somewhere else this week (DIY kitchens but they don’t know where) and I said I would be back in contact after that.

We do really like the magnet design and the designer who is clearly very experienced (unlike the wren one we saw a while ago who was awful!) and is not hassling us. . Our likely plan is to go back with a DIY kitchens price and haggle. I don’t mind paying a bit more for magnet but not a few thousand which is the difference on my draft DIY plan.

We will be using our own fitter.

Are you happy with your magnet kitchen?

Teenagers2grownups0 · 06/09/2021 07:18

Just gone back and read all the posts again. Your original cabinet quote was £13k compared to DIY at £10k.

You were going to start at £8k, did you give them the DIY price or just go in at that price? What did you get them for in the end??

Sorry for all the questions!! And thank you!
