Concealed electric shower not digital

There must be a reason why electric showers are still a plastic box that has to be installed next to the shower head when a digital mixer can be concealed away.

Does anyone know why? Is it something to do with building regs code? I have tried to google this for a while but to no avail. I was hoping some lovely MNetter may know.

We have a teeny shower cubicle and an electric shower box would take up a lot of room on the wall. We currently have a mixer but this is fitted against the manufacturer's instructions as we have a mains cold water supply to it and a gravity fed hot.

"we have a mains cold water supply to it and a gravity fed hot."

Why don't you just run a cold pipe to the loft tank?

then you will have balanced supplies and you can add a pump if you want.

An electric shower is a weedy little thing.
