Kitchen refurb - downdraft extractors

Currently researching products for my kitchen refurb. I'm considering an induction hob with an integrated Downdraft extractor. I don't have a handy outside wall near where I want the hob so I'm drawn to the recirculating type. Have also seen some "chopping board style" ones that slot into a worktop.
I'd love to get the collective MN opinion of both and get all the pros and cons from those who have used them.
TIA

I've never bought one because all the ones I have seen in use either do bugger all, or are hugely noisy as they have to work really hard to pull in enough cooking air. They also have to rise up and then go back down when you are done and that just seems to be a recipe for getting stuck and needing regular maintenance

Thanks SeaToSki. I am favouring the integrated ones like Bora that are built into an induction hob. They don’t rise up.
Am looking for advice because it’s a big investment Grin

We didn’t get one in the end, as much as I’d have liked one, as the kitchen designer recommended against it. She said they don’t really do much and also the motor underneath takes up a huge amount of space that could be used for storage instead. In the end we went for the flush mount kind that goes into a small dropped-ceiling box over the island (see photo), which is quite popular here on the continent.

I have had good advise from Westin about the extractors as we cook with a lot of spices and make a lot of curries - most efficient are the ones which extract straight out from a wall.

We have just decided against one - rattly, moving parts getting stuck, massive waste of the space underneath (esp for the Bora ones - at least with the Miele horizontal one behind the hob you can still get decent depth drawer underneath, but you can't if the fan is right in the middle of the hob), you're stuck with it if you don't like it, and overall just ferociously expensive to take a gamble on.
