Rain stops Play...or our builders at any rate.

Foundations in, footings I think, have gone in but now rain has stopped the builders from continuing (apparently a lining needs to be laid and is impossible in the wet), so today, they have already gone home (admittedly, it is now pouring down and is probably too wet).

Anyone else frustrated by the stop/start nature of their build? I am someone who likes things to happen quickly. Progress was going well up until today but I know if this continues, I will start to become agitated. How much can builders get done in the rain? Our builders don't seem to have clothing equipped for working in the rain either.

If builders know they can't do a job in the rain then they won't wear clothing to work in the rain. They want to get the job done as quickly as possible so they can get paid. You do realise that if traders get rained off an outside job and don't have an inside job to go to they don't get paid?

I am also someone who likes things done quickly but we currently have a small moat and I'd rather have foundations that are good so am reining in my frustration.

Your builders are probably also annoyed by the rain!

Yes, I am not annoyed with the builders more frustrated with the British weather! And guess what the weather cleared up today at around 3 pm!

Sorry to hear about the moat situation soaked, it looks as if rain is forecast on and off over the next week, so let's hope it's more off than on!

And to think I was glad to have the build start in summer :D :D

(Moat will apparently keep the apprentice busy bailing it out!)

Oh my god EVERYTHING stopped my builders- too hot, too wet, sickness, dentist appointments, waiting for tiles, bricks etc to be in stock and delivered - basically they could have built the extension in about a month if they’d just turned up and got on with it!
They admitted afterwards that they had 5 jobs on the go at once. Once they’ve started a job at a house they’ve basically “marked their territory” and got the job and it doesn’t matter after that how king it takes to finish as far as they are concerned.
Anyway. They did do a good job. In the long run.

We had a snow storm in the middle of having our roof replaced. That was a cold few days! At least it was done in time for the beast from the East, though.

Coolshoeshine... so, those were just excuses whilst they were cracking on with other jobs? I would find that very frustrating, at least these guys seem to be concentrating on our extension, there is the odd disappearance but nothing major. I think, if you are invested in something i.e. you are a builder and building something to make a profit for yourself, there might be more of a drive to complete it. I am sure there are many wives of builders waiting for their own work to be completed because their dh's are always working (sorry if this is sexist, I'm sure there are a few female builders out there too).
