I need some MN support please! Having our house extended outwards and upwards - we'll end up with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, open living plan, snug with corner bi fold doors into the garden so very wow factor - whole thing plastered and rendered with loads of things like windows, multiple doors etc ... it's gonna cost about £190k 😱

To be fair - if we sold it we'd Make an extra 250-350k

Tell me we're doing the right thing!!

TIA

@Whatthefoxgoingon - foundations not, so had new dug on the side extension already and got concrete coming soon - the hole is enormous! (1.5m deep by 12.5 by 2m wide )

^^ foundations not on aide so had these dug out ....
under the bungalow they're fine apparently - albeit one corner needs underpinning but that's happening when they pour the concrete in a week or two

How many quotes have you had?

flumpybear · 03/06/2019 18:06

We had three but the other two weee small companies with 1 builder and a lackie- they were going to take ages to do the work - we then chose this person who has a bigger company and was competitive plus he does work for a friend who is a buildings inspector so came with good references and historical knowledge of his work and his work ethic - saying they, since the quotes we've changed the build somewhat ... so the price has gone up but we've expected that as we want something 'special'

OP given your comment re the foundations your £190k is looking even more like a pipe dream.

We've just done a single story extension similar ish in size to yours (approx 40sqm) plus an upstairs refurb and we've spent about 50% more. Nice but not super high end.

DH is an architect so no costs for drawings and he project managed (which was a FT job) so we didn't run a penny over budget. We got some good rates on materials and some of the expertise but even so.
