DIY Kitchens Bespoke

It looks like DIY will be the best quote for our kitchen. I was really keen on the bespoke paint colours but have heard their painting is problematic & they are struggling to keep up with demand. Does anyone have recent experience please?

Bump for you OP (I’m also quite interested in the answer!)

I had a kitchen delivered a couple of weeks ago with missing, wrong and damaged items. Some of the paintwork was poor too.

The replacements came and they’re also damaged and wrong.

Something seems to have gone bang at DIY towers.

Enterthewolves · 01/06/2019 18:35

@Millstone - sorry to hear that. Have they responded well to the problems?

Yeah they’re great to deal with and very helpful.

I think they’re having some technical problems at the moment on their production line and it’s having knock on effects.

I’d definitely go with them again and recommend them.

Mine isn't bespoke paint but kitchen is fab and so very solid. One problem with the bifold wall unit (knocked out of sq which tore hinge out), sent pictures and new one delivered following week with no quibble at all. Also got to keep original - made a great doorless wall cupboard in utility.

Fitter wanted me to buy Howden's because 'I'm used to them' - Now he's telling all customers to buy DIY.

They also get recommended a lot on the self build forum I belong to and quite a few have gone for them rather than a fully bespoke kitchen and are well pleased.

Enterthewolves · 01/06/2019 20:01

Thanks both you - that’s reassuring - maybe I’ll just look again st the standard colours.

Our experience too. We went with DIY on a recommendation. Not bespoke paint but fantastic quality, fantastic finish and great price (half what Howdens quoted, and with much more choice and a more modern look).

Would definitely recommend them!

I have noticed that delivery dates have been pushed back since I first started planning our new kitchen. Is it just the bespoke painting that there have been issues with as far as everyone knows?

TitusP · 01/06/2019 21:23

We had a kitchen from them in February. Found the initial ordering very good and the quality is great.

But we had some missing items and I found having to use the after sales online messaging system very irritating. They sent the wrong missing part twice, and because I couldn't speak to someone to explain the issue I ended up having to draw a diagram and sending them that. We had zero notice of the delivery of some damaged items until we got a call at 9am at night to say they were outside and had to cut a night with friends short and rush home to accept the delivery.

I found that with their messaging system if they reply to a message just to say they are looking into something, if you don't reply their system would mark it as dealt with and they'd never get back to you. Honestly we probably wouldn't use them again just because of the after sales care.

Sorry I thought I’d replied. @TitusP - that sounds really annoying - do you think the budget saving was worth the extra grief?

Our kitchen is DIY Bespoke paints as well as some bespoke cabinets etc. We’ve had it for about 1.5 years and we’re happy with it.

TitusP · 05/06/2019 08:12

@Enterthewolves I think we were a bit unlucky in the amount that went wrong to be fair, DIY Kitchens were probably as pleased to see the back of us as we were them!

My carpenter said the quality was on par with Magnet/ Howdens/ Benchmarx so I think next time unless the savings compared to either of those companies was pretty substantial I wouldn't use DIY Kitchens again.

FreyaStratfordStar · 05/06/2019 09:28

We have just placed our kitchen order with DIY Kitchens and I am so nervous. Awful things on Facebook and Twitter about delays and problems. Fingers crossed.

Howdens will price match DIY. My original quote was 4500 with Howdens, and I spent time uploading the full itemized list of parts, making sure to add on soft close hinges etc.

They came in at £3126 which Howdens beat by £1! There was also a very quick lead time, only a week.

Simply for speed we went with Howdens, also any problems you can nip in and pick bits up but I love my new kitchen and it's really well built.

Order your kitchen in white and have it pained on site by a professional painter, will be cheaper and quicker than ordering in bespoke colour .

My friend recently had a company in Crowborough do her kitchen, they are a rare find according to her!! they are completely bespoke and hand paint their kitchens, she said their service was spot on and efficient and the kitchen I must say looks incredible I now have kitchen envy!!!! She highly recommends them! They are in Crowborough and called Eridge green kitchens. Good luck with your project!!
